All about

What is Shogun?

Shogun is a drag and drop page builder for eCommerce merchants. You can choose from dozens of pre-built templates, adjust the copy and images to fit your site, and publish. Or create your own landing and product pages from the ground up. I actually use Shogun myself to create the product detail pages on eCommercetech.io.

This tool offers a codeless page creation process that gives an amazing user experience for your customers. It also helps you to move faster when trying out new elements and saves you money on developer costs. Pages are optimized for conversion and pull in product information dynamically from your site. This allows you to create custom product detail pages which can then be A/B tested to improve conversion.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

  • List

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

What makes Shogun different than competitors?

Native integrations allow you to create pages under your own domain so you are not subdomaining. Meaning your page is not owned by the tool provider, it’s yours to keep. So if you quit Shogun tomorrow, the pages stay.

The ability to clone content, schedule page postings, aspects of how you can A/B test based on clicks, add to carts, or sales all differentiate Shogun from other page builders.

When it comes to A/B testing, Optimizely, Google Optimize, and VBO create “ghost pages” as opposed to actual variants on the existing page. So, for those that need robust personalization or multi-variant testing, you still need the big guys, like Optimizely, but to get started with A/B testing you can use Shogun native.

What metrics is Shogun going to improve for my Ecommerce store?

Being able to easily create pages as well as not having to pay for developer time directly affects your bottom line. This also saves on your time quite a bit. And finally, as you use this tool to improve pages and A/B test them, you should find it benefits your overall conversion rate of those pages.

Who has to manage Shogun and how long does it take to setup?

Shogun can be integrated into your store in minutes. Their drag and drop templates make it simple to create pages that provide for a great customer experience and can be adjusted easily at any time. Depending on how many pages you need to create or recreate, you can expect to spend a few hours designing, tweaking, and testing out the pages. Be sure to save them as a snippet or template and then you can use them over and over again for the next product, next category, next blog post, etc. Personally, I go into Shogun any time I’m adding something to the site or if I need to update my events page, a blog post, what have you. So this is a regular use tool that you will want your marketing and eCommerce teams to be comfortable with. We actually have about a dozen videos explaining to our team on how to update Shogun pages properly. Each business will have their own method for this.

Is Shogun right for my store?

This tool is most powerful for new, small, and growing stores where you and your team are not experts in web development. It’s really about giving you the ability to control the site, without having to take a 6 week course in web development. And as you grow, you may end up having the resources for that team or agency that handles the site and pages, or as in most cases seen by Shogun, you elect to keep their tool and have the dev team build on top or in conjunction of Shogun.

Testing different elements, offers, and content are all powerful ways to generate more revenue. Every company should continuously work to improve how they present their products and services. A tool like Shogun allows you to test different things at your own pace and track performance all within a single system. Test test test, I can’t stress that enough.

If you’ve got a full-fledged expert on the team already, maybe they will stick to hard coding. I think they could still benefit from using Shogun because it will save them a lot of time, but maybe it's not as important then.

If you don’t foresee yourself building or changing pages very frequently, you will have less of a use for this tool, but I also question your dedication to the success of your business, as most sites need constant updating.
